![]() ![]() The soundtrack to the cult favorite black comedy/coming-of-age film Igby Goes Down features a suitably indie, Brit-pop, and modern rock-heavy soundtrack spanning relatively well-known tracks like the Dandy Warhols' "Bohemian Like You," which has already graced several other soundtracks (their "Boys Better" appears later on the album), to more obscure songs such as the aloof trip-hop of Somersault's "Frozen Tears." Not surprisingly, the collection is something of a mixed bag, with the British indie selections like Coldplay's "Don't Panic," Badly Drawn Boy's "Everybody's Stalking," and the Beta Band's "Broken Up a Ding Dong" displaying far more character and melody than the rather bland, faceless alt-rock that makes up most of the soundtrack even Travis' pleasant but too faithful cover of the Band's "The Weight" sounds gritty and original compared to slick entries such as Jelly Planet's "Anyway," Underwater Circus' "Not You," and Driftland's "Youth Is Wasted on the Young." Fortunately, the excerpts of Uwe Farhenkrog-Petersen's sardonic score inject some much-needed personality into the album and capture the film's feel in the bargain.
